Pressure the DPU

Community Choice Energy is a program that allows towns and cities to use an energy broker to purchase renewable electric energy for all of the municipality’s residents and businesses. More than 15 towns and cities are receiving extra renewable electricity through the program and 34 more have applied to the Department of Public Utilities for permission to join. BUT, under pressure from utilities and the fossil fuel industry, the DPU has been sitting on those applications for the last two YEARS.

The 350 MA Climate Courage Working Group believes the Community Choice Energy program is an important way to encourage solar, wind, and battery companies to build more renewable energy and combat climate change. To pressure DPU to approve the 34 applications, we are launching a Time for DPU to Face Climate Change campaign.

The DPU is not a very transparent agency, so our first step is to bombard them with individual complaints. DPU is required by law to respond to every comment/complaint, so this will get their attention. We are asking many other groups and people to participate, but hope that ten or fifteen of your members will boost our impact by submitting a complaint form. We need you.

Thank you for helping and we will keep in touch as we move to the next action steps in the campaign.
