Our goals with these weeks of action are to get people across the Commonwealth talking about this dangerous threat to Springfield and Longmeadow’s communities, get Eversource’s attention & convince them to cancel this dangerous, unhealthy, and climate-changing pipeline project!

Week 3, April 6-10: The proposed Springfield-Longmeadow Pipeline is climate-changing

This is the final week leading up to the Rally to Stop the Pipeline on April 9th! We need to get the word out about this rally and why we need to stop this pipeline!

Here’s how you can help:

We are at a critical moment, teetering at the edge of climate catastrophe. Yet Eversource plans a new natural gas pipeline, larger and higher pressure than any existing pipelines in Springfield.  It is a fossil fuel expansion project, not a “reliability project”. Methane, the main component of natural gas, is a greenhouse gas 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide over 20 years. We need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions as fast as we can, not invest $35-35 million in a climate-killing fossil fuel expansion project. This is a dangerous and irresponsible project. Come join us at a rally on April 9th at 1 pm at the Federal Courthouse building in Springfield to demand that Eversource cancel this pipeline project!

Last year, Massachusetts took vital steps to respond to the climate crisis by passing the Climate Roadmap bill which mandates a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and net zero by 2050. Yet @EversourceMA wants to drag us in the wrong direction by building the unhealthy, unnecessary, and climate changing Springfield-Longmeadow pipeline. How does Eversource plan to meet emissions reductions standards after building a new pipeline, especially when they wouldn’t be breaking ground until 2024? Why is Eversource willing to sacrifice the wellbeing of both people and the planet to make more money? Come join us at a rally on April 9th at 1 pm at the Federal Courthouse building in Springfield to demand that Eversource cancel this pipeline!
