DIRECTOR OF CLIMATE ACTION & PROJECT ADMINISTRATION
- One (1) Permanent Full-time Vacancy – 40 Hours per week Band K; Hourly (FY24) Rate Range: $42.62-$55.92 ($88,657-$116,324 Annual)
- Anticipated Hiring Hourly (FY24) Rate Range: $42.62-$48.23 ($88,657-$100,322 Annual)
Project Management Duties:
Lead municipal project management teams to deliver successful projects across multiple city departments.
Manage project development timelines across the city.
Resolve conflict between projects and align the work done by the Energy & Sustainability Officer and other departmental project managers and their teams.
Possess strong knowledge of project management processes.
Measure project performance for climate goals using appropriate project management tools.
Report and escalate to the Mayor as and when needed.
Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
Procurement Leadership:
Organize and oversee procurement and contract activities to achieve specific goals and strategic objectives for the city.
Establish a system to track important procurements across the city.
Improve communication and coordination between departments for important procurements.
Train and empower staff to effectively handle critical procurements and build a network of procurement experts.
Increase the importance and prominence of the procurement function in Northampton city government.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in sustainability practices, energy, project administration, or similar field and from two to four years of experience in a complementary field focusing on energy systems, energy’s impact on sustainability and society, energy regulations and policies, grant writing/administration, general administration, and planning, or any equivalent combination of a technical background with complementary education and experience, required. Master’s Degree preferred. Mass Public Purchasing Official (MPPO) designation desirable.
Knowledge, Ability, and Skill:
Excellent interpersonal skills, including maintaining effective working relationships with our diverse community, city boards and committees, and staff.
Excellent management skills.
Exceptional organizational, analytical, written, and verbal skills are required,
A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of climate justice.
Continuously develop knowledge of best practices and emerging science related to the climate crisis and how they may be applicable. Understands current scientific and technical findings as they relate to the climate crisis.
Ability to comprehend and apply technical knowledge as it relates to: energy uses and conservation.
Strong analytic and collaboration skills; demonstrated competency in utilizing creative and innovative thinking.
A high degree of technical aptitude; ability to apply complex and varied analytical skills.
