Massachusetts does not have the funding it needs to meet its climate goals set by the Next Generation Roadmap bill (S.9) and Governor Baker’s 2030 Clean Energy & Climate Plan (CECP). Without the Green Future Act’s clear plan to sustainably and equitably raise green money, our state risks being forced to adopt regressive taxes and miss the opportunity to create local jobs.
The Green Future Act (H3292) is one of Climate Action Now’s top two priority bills for this legislative session. The Green Future Act is the new and improved version of the Benson Bill (H2810) which was a priority last session but did not make it out of committee. Last session the legislature passed the Next Generation/Roadmap Bill and they passed it again at the beginning of this session after the Governor’s veto. The Green Future Act is important because it details how what needs to be done to reach the mandates will be funded in an equitable way with emphasis on climate justice communities.
With 74 co-sponsors on Beacon Hill, the Green Future Act has a chance to become one of the most comprehensive pieces of climate legislation ever enacted in the United States. Join us on September 28th from 7 to 8:45 pm as we call environmentalists in Rep Ashe’s and Rep Puppolo’s districts to get them to contact their Reps in support of the Green Future Act. Both of these representatives co-sponsored last session’s bill but have not yet co-sponsored The Green Future Act. We can line up Western Mass’s State House delegation behind game changing climate change legislation, but we need your help. https://actionnetwork.org/events/can-green-future-act-phone-bank-928
Please click the link above to register. If you want to read more about the bill you can go to this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LPs4EOrKVgIguXTVnzqTnypt0N8UYHwX/ or you can go to the coalition’s website greenfuturenowma.org.
Carrie Katan from Climate-XChange and the Green Future Now coalition will be getting us oriented to do the calling. It’s very easy. Scripts about what to say are right in front of you when you are making calls. Carrie will be able to answer any questions. You are not expected to be an expert on the bill. We are encouraging constituents to share their climate concerns with their legislator. This is very important.
Hope I see you on the 28th, Sharon Moulton (413)478-9039 smm2250@aol.com
